Sadly, Star Trek: Discovery is on hiatus, but the good news is that all of the storylines were wrapped up for the mid-season finale. The show started off with many characters being put in a new situation by having to go to war. It looks like that war is over, and our characters are headed in a new direction.
Parallel Universes, Alternate Realities & Multi Dimensions The concept of multiple universes is a topic of great contentious debate in the field of physics. It has emerged on its own accord from the fascinating scientific findings of experiments based on. If we observe the cat as alive, a parallel universe is created at that moment in which our dopplegangers are observing a dead cat. These are all mind experiments, admittedly, but seriously considered in some circles. If this is the case, we are travelling into parallel universes all the time, but we just don't know it.
Rolando garcia. The last moments of the finale hinted that we might return to find our characters in a parallel universe. The one universe that will most likely be explored is the mirror universe. Want to know why? Here are seven things we know, along with theories about the show jumping to the mirror universe.
1. The mid-season finale shows Captain Lorca sending Discovery elsewhere
This season has been focused on the war between Starfleet and the Klingon Empire. But the war might be over, with Burnham, Tyler, Stamets, Tilly, Saru, and Lorca discovering the code for Klingon’s cloaking devices. After that, Burnham successfully takes down Kol’s ship.
So where does the show go from there? It looks like the answer could be a totally different universe! In the last moments of the episode, Stamets realizes that the spore drive can take them to other universes. Captain Lorca hits a control and Discovery disappears. Saru says he doesn’t have a clue where the ship is, and Stamets replies he can see all permutations, which Inverse believes could mean multiple universes.
Fans will have to wait for the show to return on Jan. 6, 2018 in order to find out where exactly the crew ended up. But many have theories about what this could mean for the show’s future.
2. CBS announces the crew will be in ‘unfamiliar territory’

The network somewhat hinted at what will be in the next episode.
The announcement says, “While in unfamiliar territory, the U.S.S. Discovery crew is forced to get creative in their next efforts to survive opposing and unprecedented forces and return home.”
3. The 10th episode could hint at a mirror universe

The first episode of the show’s return is named “Despite Yourself.” There isn’t anything else known about it, but given the name and the fact that different universes were hinted at in the end of the finale, there is a good chance the mirror universe could be the new setting of the show.
“Despite Yourself” could also mean that our characters will be meeting another version of themselves.
4. Jonathan Frakes previously confirmed the show will explore the mirror universe

This might not be a total surprise to some fans. Jonathan Frakes previously said the show will have an episode exploring the mirror universe.
So there is a good chance that is where Discovery ended up or will eventually end up when the show returns.
5. Star Trek characters have met their twins in a mirror universe before

In support of the theory that the “Despite Yourself” title is a big hint, we can look at previous Star Trek episodes showing the mirror universe.
The first episode that explored this universe was “Mirror, Mirror,” where the crew of The Enterprise met their twins in a universe where there isn’t a Federation.
6. The episode may answer a theory about Captain Lorca

Worms 3 game. There is still a lot we don’t know about Captain Lorca, so there is a common theory that he is actually from a different universe. This is because a dedication plaque for ISS Discovery is pictured on Discovery’s bridge.
According to Comic Book, “that designation is used by the Terran Empire, the mirror universe’s version of the Federation of Planets.”
7. Lorca’s words might be a hint that the theory is true

Many people suspect that Captain Lorca is from the mirror universe. In the final moments, he says “Let’s go home” before the ship jumps to a mysterious place.
IGN theorizes this could be a sign that he is from the parallel universe, and he actually steered the ship this way on purpose in order to go back.
