Were put forward as examples of work by real artisans. But if we want videogames to be considered a true artistic medium, we should accept that games must then be judged by a different, expanded set of standards.
No longer is it acceptable to sweep things behind the curtain of 'it's only a videogame.' And nowhere is this more critical than the current of insensitivity that has moved beneath the surface of this industry from the outrageously shameful days of Custer's Revenge for the Atari 2600 to the stereotypical dialog of Cole Train in the popular Gears of Wars series.March 27, 2007 - Months ago, From Software and Ubisoft delivered the Xbox 360's first traditional turn-based RPG.
With random battles, plot driven exploration and loads of cinema driven special battles, the arrival of Enchanted Arms was a good addition for the genre on Microsoft's system, which only had Final Fantasy and the epic Oblivion for fans to experience. Now, months later, Enchanted Arms is making its way to the PS3, marking the first turn-based RPG on Sony's Cell-driven system.
However, much more than a basic port of the game, the PS3 version has received a number of subtle gameplay enhancements to take advantage of the Sixaxis controller.March 23, 2007 - Things have been picking up for PlayStation 3 users lately; and while multiple high profile projects like Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet and Killzone are still a way's away, it doesn't mean that there aren't titles to look out for. Highlighted below is some of the more interesting software slated to appear on store shelves this spring (March 21 thru June 21) for the PS3, and if comparing this list against our Games of Winter proves anything, it's that the game selection is definitely getting more diverse.

Released in April 2007 for North America and March 2007 in Europe. Story - The story gravitates around a great war that happened 1000 years ago. This great war known as the 'Golem War' devastated the entire world, leaving it in ruin. The golems (Artificial humanoid beings) who were originally designed to carry out commands given to them, continued the war for many years, until they eventually stopped working.
Since then, the world has rebuilt over time, and the reasons for the war seem to have been forgotten. But there are still those out there, who wish to discover the secrets behind the golems and the powerful magic that have been lost with the passing of time. You play as Atsuma, a young student at the 'Enchant University' who is studying a type of magic known as 'Enchanting'. As the story begins to unravel, you playing as Atsuma and the friends he encounters along the way. Will need to use the abilities you have acquired to save the world, and in doing so prevent another great war.
The story offers many interesting features, in 'Quest Mode' you take control of Atsuma, this allows you to explore a variety of locations. There are a lot of people you can talk to within the story, and plenty of items to uncover, so there is always something to do within the story. As you continue through the story, you will even gain the opportunity to visit a casino, and play a selection of games that can hand out some great prizes that can be of great help to you going through the game. I found the story very enjoyable, with some informative conversation and exciting cut scenes.
Combat - The combat in Enchanted Arms is very tactical. While exploring areas within the game battles will be generated at random, I enjoy this, as it tends to keep me on top of my characters conditions at all times. When a battle occurs you will find yourself on a 6x4 grid, each side can use 3x4 squares on the grid. On your turn you may move your characters within the grid, some movement might be limited depending on the character you are using at the time. When you have moved your character in to position, you can then select an attack. Each attack you have will offer a different range of attack, and have a set direction. Each attack is different, so each will have its own area of attack.
This will allow you to hit multiple enemies at once if you are positioned correctly. As you level up, you will unlock more powerful skills, this can also offer an increase of field coverage to hit more enemies. Something you will have use of throughout your adventure is 'EX' attacks, this is a characters special ability and can deal out a massive amount of damage. Over time you will unlock a selection of EX attacks that you can perform. Another thing to the combat is the use of golems, these can be very helpful in some situations. You need to make a golem, and in order to do so you must obtain the 'Core' for that golem.
You do this by winning battles, purchasing them and you are even able to find them in locations you pass through. Some of the best golems in the game can be won from the casino, so it would be worth investing some time there if you want a strong selection. Each golem you acquire will have different abilities, so you can switch them up and decide what golem fits best for a particular battle. I found the combat very fun to take part in, and kept me constantly trying to predict the enemies moves.
For anyone wanting combat that requires you to think, Enchanted Arms offers it. Graphics - I actually thought the graphics were quite good. Movie scenes were vibrant and full of action, bringing to life the feel of the game. Locations had some amazing detail to them, in some places bringing extra charm to the area you are currently in. Facial expressions were good for the most part, but let areas of conversation down sometimes, bringing a lifeless feel to the conversation.
Pewdiepie scary. PewDiePie's diss track 'Bitch Lasagna'.
In battle graphics stood out, and showed a great amount of detail when initiating certain attacks. Movement was smooth both in and out of battle, and never felt clunky to me. With so many different things to search out with the graphics, such as towns and cities which really stand out, I was never really disappointed with anything the graphics had to offer. Sound - Enchanted Arms deals out some pretty good voice acting, fitting the over all appearance of the characters. For me I only found one character to be rather annoying, and a pain to listen to.
The sound track wasn't really anything special, if anything it felt highly repetitive even more so than in some other RPG games. You would hear different snips of music in locations, but because it was just a loop of the same short clip of sound, it didn't make it something I enjoyed hearing. Battle music was very operatic, which isn't really to my tastes when I am trying to get in the fighting spirit. But regardless it had that feel of tension to it, which made having to fight to it bearable.
The real star of the sound is the voice acting, and it makes up for any downfalls in music. Depth - The depth is something that can be highly different depending on the person for this game. The main story will give you approximately 22 hours of game time, any extras you wish to take on such as acquiring items you may have missed, can bump your time to roughly 42 hours. I have heard that it is possible to complete this game to its fullest in 51 hours, but as I mentioned that depends on the player. For me I racked up nearly 100 hours of play time on this game, the amount of golems you can obtain can sometimes take a while, and exploring every corner of an area can take up some time. The game offers enough for the player that they shouldn't get bored in a hurry. Addictiveness - I would say that Enchanted Arms is pretty addictive, from the combat to the story each offered something that kept me hooked to the game.
Like most games of an RPG nature leveling up is crucial, and though this can feel tiresome I didn't find that to be the case with this game. I enjoyed spending many hours fighting enemies and grinding my power up, sometimes spending up to 6 hours at a time doing it. The story had a good feeling of intrigue to it that kept me wanting to hear more, and locations offers a fresh new look leaving me with the urge to explore. I would say that when it comes down to depth, Enchanted Arms can meet a players needs for it. Difficulty - Now the difficulty was one thing I thought offered a good balance, enemies were hard but not so much that it left you frustrated. Thinking you can play this game as you go without putting in the time to level your team would be a mistake, as I got deeper in to the game I found certain locations to spawn an incredible amount of strong enemies. Boss battles can be time consuming if you aren't prepared well for them, and give a good challenge to the player.
Navigating locations wasn't to hard, but did at times leave me confused as to where to go. On my second play through of this game I found it much easier to finish as I knew what to expect, as long as you spend enough time leveling for each upcoming area, people shouldn't have any problems taking down a foe easily while still getting the challenging feel to the fight. Overall - My overall experience with this game left me satisfied, but not as much as I think I could have been.
With a good interesting story, a range of powerful skills and entertaining vocals. Combine that with exploration and decent challenges, and it makes Enchanted Arms a great game to play. Though I wish there was a new game+ feature upon completion, it never took away any enjoyment I got from it, and still offers me great replay value. To sum it up, if you want a game that makes you think and challenges you as a player, then you shouldn't be let down by this game. Graphics 8 Sound 4 Addictive 7 Depth 7 Story 8 Difficulty 6.
