Jun 13, 2018  PixelJunk Monsters 2 Review (Switch eShop). PixelJunk Monsters 2 is absolutely stunning when docked. But until Limited run games manage to get some sort of European store-front the prices.

Send a modmail or report!Related Subreddits. I've put over 30 hours into this game over the course of a week and a half when it first came out. I've almost '3-starred' every level (in this game it is 3 thirds of a rainbow) and haven't touched it since. The art style and the animation are extremely charming.

Running around to collect the money that defeated monsters is fun. Dancing to upgrade towers is still a blast. The strategy portion of the gameplay on the other hand can be mildly frustrating (especially at first). The pathing of the monsters can feel quite cheap.

Each level shows you a preview of the route the monsters will take. So you build your towers accordingly, then the monsters start taking alternative routes. Then they start pathing in directions that aren't even visible routes. It is impossible to strategize before playing the level at least once and seeing how each wave will path through the map. Once I got used to the idea that I would need to retry a level multiple times, I had more fun with the game. Going for perfect on each level is a challenge and can get addictive. All the unlockable cosmetics look basically the same so trying to earn them all isn't worth it.The couple of extra bucks for the deluxe edition is reasonable. Paying full price for the DLC is not worth it but this sale is quite good.I agree with all the people that recommend trying the demo before purchasing. If you enjoy that, you'll get plenty more of it.

If you are bored by the simplicity of the number of towers and enemy types, or the pathing bothers you, then the rest of the game won't interest you. It's a decent but typical tower defense title. Like most games in the genre there's alot of trial and error, especially with the later stages, if you want to complete a stage without your base getting hit.

Fortunately you can progress through the game and see the levels without perfecting each stage. As for longevity, I enjoyed it over the course of a weekend but after that I was ready to move on. I can't comment on the DLC though I don't see myself returning to this game to check it out. You should check out the demo if you're interested.
