Let me preface this with saying that I absolutely agree that Port forwarding and using software such as hamachi is a stupid hassle and there are a million better ways of playing multiplayer.I would love to run my own servers so people wouldn't have to hassle with port forwarding but. I'm going to be completely honest here. I don't know how to do it.During an early version of Roguelands I actually had a server that players could connect through but then I realized I have no idea how to make sure it is secure/stable/protected. The worst thing that could happen is something like a DDOS attack or somehow the servers go down and then everyone who purchased the game can't play. This may seem like a cop out to some but I'm just one guy and I'd much rather put my time towards making a cool game and hope that players will be fine with this primitive and ugly way of multiplayer. It would be an absolute nightmare if something went terribly wrong 1 month after launch because I am not experienced enough with hosting and maintaining servers.I see bad reviews all the time for steam games that have hacking problems(that have much bigger teams) and I just don't want to deal with that. I've gotten really comfortable with port forwarding and I promise I've made it as streamlined as possible in-game when hosting or connecting.I know some people will never use this method of multiplayer but all I can do is offer refunds or suggest not to buy the game because port forwarding/hamachi for Roguelands will probably be staying for a long time if not forever.
Maybe one day I'll team up with some networking pros or I'll learn it all myself, but for now I'd like to spend my time and resources on making a fun game that I know will ALWAYS work and hope that players will just connect with each other on their end. At least I can go to bed at night knowing that everyone who purchased the game will be able to play with each other anytime. But yea screw port forwarding ugh I promise once you do it it's easy to host/connect anytime.-Sean. Looking at your profile it looks as though you do have less than 2 hours which is great. Here, just follow these steps and you'll get a full refund by steam!1.
